ONCOLOGY MASSAGE

Oncology Massage is a specialised form of therapeutic massage which involves gentle pressure techniques to improve quality of life for people with a diagnosis or history of cancer, at any stage of their journey from those in active treatment to those in recovery or survivorship.

This mindful therapeutic massage can alleviate the side effects caused by conventional treatments such as surgery radiation or chemotherapy.

Medical research also shows that the benefits of oncology massage goes on for days after the massage experience. The largest study being carried out by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. The study demonstrated that massage resulted in:

  • 47 per cent improvement in pain levels

  • 42 per cent improvement in fatigue levels

  • 59 percent improvement in anxiety

  • 51 per cent improvement in nausea

  • 48 per cent in reports of depression

With other symptoms such as dry mouth, shortness of breath, memory problems or disturbed sleep improving by 48 percent.

Researchers concluded that "massage is a markedly effective, uncommonly non-invasive and inexpensive way to control symptoms for cancer patients”.

Treatment times will depend on each individuals' needs on the day and appointments will be saved for oncology clients to ensure they do not have to wait more than a week. Home/Hospice visits can be arranged but will incur a fee for travel, related to estimated time taken.
